Dr Carla Abbott runs both preclinical and clinical studies to investigate the underlying causes of and potential treatments for retinal and optic nerve disease.

Associate Professor Lauren Ayton (B. Optom, PhD, GCOT, FAAO) is a clinician-scientist with a strong research interest in vision restoration, retinal pathology and clinical assessment of visual performance.

Dr Thomas Edwards investigates the potential of gene therapy to cure inherited retinal diseases.

Professor Robyn Guymer AM leads CERA’s macular research, with a focus on investigating age-related macular degeneration.

Professor Keith Martin is CERA’s Managing Director. His research focus is on glaucoma, particularly investigating new strategies to protect and regenerate the optic nerve.

Associate Professor Peter van Wijngaarden is an ophthalmologist and medical scientist with research interests in diabetic retinopathy, Alzheimer’s disease and retinal imaging biomarker discovery. He has research experience in retinal vascular biology and central nervous system regeneration.

Dr Raymond Wong is a stem cell biologist and leads CERA’s cellular reprogramming research.
