Associate Professor Rosie Dawkins is a vitreoretinal surgeon at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital (RVEEH) and a Senior Research Fellow at CERA at the University of Melbourne.  She has expertise in all areas of vitreoretinal surgery.

Associate Professor Dawkins undertook her ophthalmology training and vitreoretinal subspecialty training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, followed by Addenbrookes’ Hospital in Cambridge, United Kingdom. This was preceded by undergraduate studies at the University of Western Australia, with First Class Honours awarded for her BMedSc(Hons) research. She later undertook a MPH at Harvard University on a John Monash Scholarship and Robert Menzies Scholarship to Harvard.

Her current research has three main strands, with the common thread of working towards excellence in vitreoretinal surgery – the Bionic Eye where she provides clinical expertise; endophthalmitis. In endophthalmitis her research spans basic science, translational science and clinical science; and prevention and treatment of retinal detachment.

Dr Dawkins is engaged with global ophthalmology, and previously lived in Timor-Leste, providing ophthalmology services as well as training local doctors and undertaking research for service development. She also has a strong interest in Aboriginal people’s health, and works as an ophthalmologist at the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service.
