Dr Amy Cohn is a Senior Research Fellow in CERA’s Macular Research team and a Visiting Medical Officer at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital.
Her areas of expertise include diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, inherited eye disease and cataract. She has extensive experience with retinal lasers, cataract surgery and intra-vitreal injections.
Dr Cohn obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with honours from the University of Melbourne in 2000. She undertook her internship and residency at the Royal Melbourne Hospital where she completed placements that included Cardiology, Intensive Care and Plastic Surgery.
She then completed a Master of Medicine in Inherited Eye Disease at the Centre for Eye Research Australia which resulted in a number of publications and presentations both in Australia and internationally. She was admitted to the accredited ophthalmology training programme at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in 2005.
After completing her basic ophthalmology training, Dr Cohn went on to work as a Senior Registrar at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and Monash Medical Centre. During this time she was the Senior Ophthalmology Registrar at Monash in Anterior Segment and Cataract surgery.
She then relocated to London where for two years she was a Medical Retina Fellow at the renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital. She is thrilled to be back in Melbourne to continue her career.
Dr Cohn is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. She is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialists.
Her current areas of research include age-related macular degeneration, inherited eye conditions and central cerous retinopathy. She has published widely and delivered several papers at international conferences. She has been involved in teaching of new ophthalmology trainees at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital.
