CERA’s Robyn Guymer honoured by Bayer’s Global Ophthalmology Awards Program
Professor Robyn Guymer has won a prestigious 2017 Bayer Global Ophthalmology Award for her innovative work on an novel app for those with aged-related macular degeneration (AMD).
The Global Ophthalmology Awards Program supports research and training in retinal ophthalmology with the aim of advancing the scientific understanding and clinical management of ophthalmic disorders. The winners are chosen by an independent Grants Review and Awards Committee. The Co-Chair of the Committee, Professor Quan Nguyen presented the award to Professor Guymer in Melbourne today.
“Professor Guymer’s work was judged by the selection committee to show great promise, as it will allow the early detection of disease in patients and allow earlier and more effective treatment,” said Professor Nguyen.
Prof Guymer said that it’s fabulous to be recognised “…for what we want to do, which is to get people into the clinic to access treatment.”
“At the moment we are running a small trial an hope to progress to a larger one and are looking for funding to progress to that stage.”
