Associate Professor Sanj Wickremasinghe is a Senior Research Fellow in CERA’s Clinical Trials Research Centre.
He completed his ophthalmology training in the UK at Moorfields Eye Hospital, during which time he completed sub-speciality training in Medical Retina and Uveitis. He undertook a second Medical Retina Fellowship at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital that incorporated both clinical and research experience.
Since 2009 he has held appointments at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and at CERA. He has conducted his own research into the treatment and investigation of factors affecting the outcomes of treatment in patients with neovascular age related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
A/Prof Wickremasinghe is a principal investigator in several multi-centre international and national drug trials of new treatments in macular degeneration, diabetic macular oedema and retinal vein occlusion and has written over 60 peer reviewed articles for top ranked journals.
He is a section editor for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology and is a reviewer for several major ophthalmology journals, including the Archives of Ophthalmology and British Journal of Ophthalmology.
He has given invited presentations throughout the Australia Pacific region as well as in the United Kingdom. He has been a clinical examiner for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists for the last 5 years and is a member of the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital Hum Research and Ethics Committee.
He holds memberships of the American Society of Retinal Specialists and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialists.
